Dundonald Links is situated in Ayrshire on the West Coast of Scotland, a stretch of golfing terrain unrivalled in the world. The course was being prepared for The Scottish Open, and was in superb condition. Military Members will be able to book 48 hrs. The one element I did not like was the false burns with railroad ties. I liked the routing of the holes as it moves around in all directions with 1-4 out and back, 5-8 playing in a "inner" circle, and then playing in an outer circle of almost a figure eight in reverse. 35 35 people viewed this event. Dundonald is a course that is maturing well and stands in very good stead for the future. The extensive practice facilities give you the first clue that the place has quality. The entrance to Dundonald Links is half a mile along on the left hand side. It was with some excitement then that I visited Dundonald but I think it is hard to see it quite in the same league as the aforementioned courses. When I played it, the course conditioning was immaculate, as good as anywhere. The neighbouring Western Gailes GC and Glasgow (Gailes) GC (now called Gailes Links) also had memberships mainly comprising wealthy Glaswegians wanting to play golf on the Ayrshire coast. Featuring everything you would expect from a world class modern links course, Dundonald Links has wonderful undulations, deep rough, a generous helping of gorse bushes and unlike many traditional links courses, there are areas of the course that are framed by stunning pine trees. The Scottish Open will be held here soon and is clearly more than capable of holding a top professional event whilst at the same time serving up a tremendously enjoyable day for the average golfer. All the bunkers on the fairways seemed to play a real part and were in prime landing spots, so very well designed for that.
